collab-chat (approved by Tyler): First page for the Celaborans: tree people who reclaim spent pneuma, per this session

New page

'''Celaborans''' are a people of living trees. They are native to '''Celaboran Forest''', which is named for them.

== Feeding ==

Celaborans do not eat. They '''reclaim''': they draw in dull, spent [[Pneuma#Spent pneuma|pneuma]] left behind by casting, dying and dissonance, and return it to use.

This makes them scavengers in the sense that nature is a scavenger. A place overgrown by Celaborans is a place that has been abandoned and taken back. They gather where things have ended — battlefields, ruins, worked-out sites — because that is where the spent pneuma is.

They are not hostile to the living and do not hunt. They arrive afterward.

== Elemental alignment ==

Celaborans are associated with '''earth''' and '''water''', the two media a tree lives between. How literal this is — cultural, or their bodies partly bound to those media — is unsettled.

== Open questions ==

* Do Celaborans generate any pneuma of their own, or only reclaim? Considered and deliberately left open.
* Are they place-bound, and can a Celaboran leave the forest?
* What happens to one cut off from spent pneuma — death, or dormancy?
* Lifespan, speed, memory.
* Whether groves are world-critical infrastructure (a region's magic depending on them) or simply one people among others.
